The Scottish Genealogy Club is a not for profit organisation formed in the early months of 2014, with the following intended goals and aims:
To provide online assistance to Family Historians possessing varied levels of experience, from beginner to expert. Assistance may include any or all of the following:
Guidance about where appropriate sources for information are located and how to access these resources.
Confirmation of gathered data and perhaps further expansion of that data from official sources.
Consultative data sharing and friendly guidance by very experience researchers relating to all aspects of ancestral research.
Lookup request access to a large library of reference materials.
Lookup request access to a large number of monumental inscription references.
Lookup request access to historical census data.
Guidance given will, to the best of our abilities, be impartial, un-biased and be as historically accurate as possible.
To provide an online environment where people of all types, from many countries, and from all backgrounds can discuss their family research and collaborate to enhance the overall research experience. Friendly, good natured collaboration is the SGC way.
To provide low cost or, where possible, free service alternatives to the many high cost commercial genealogy sites which seem to grow in numbers and costs with each passing year.
To provide colourful, accurate and unique background information relating to ancestral enquiries. Filling in the gaps and providing a more complete vision of the world our ancestors inhabited.
To participate constructively in the wider genealogy community and promote services and resources which are not driven by profit incentives or other financial forces.
Only a genealogist regards a step backwards as Progress.
